Default Cleaning Tar off of Wires

    Greetings All,

I am in the process of replacing the wiring in my swamp cooler. Found tar on the wires leading from the box to the cooler. ( I recently had my roof redone)

Is there a safe way to clean the wires before I reconnect them?

Give WD-40 a whirl. Quite the cleaning agent.

WD-40 for sure. Make sure there are mechanical connectors such as wire nuts under the electrical tape as you will have problems with them at some point in time. Just twisting the wires around themselves is not approved.
