Post Rusty water from almost new water heater

We completed a new house in May of 2008. Hot water coming from all the faucets has rust for a few seconds. Any ideas about why? Thanks

Private well or city water supply?

Any evidence yet of a brown-ish algae-like material in the toilet tanks?

The house is on a rural water supply system (public). There has been no other evidence of "brown" water.

That's got to be a mix of Galvanized pipes or fittings with Brass and Copper. This causes a ton of corrosion in the Galvanized pipe or fitting. What you are seeing is rust. The only way to use these dissimilar metals together is by use of a die-electric fitting. I have seen a 3/4" Galvanized nipple completely clogged with its on rusted chunks. And they just thought it was a dummy hose bibb nope hahahah
