Default Cant get Electric Water Heater to work

Hello, Im writing to find out how I can migrate from our oil burner to the electric water heater? We just bought a house and were told by the previous owner that he shuts down the oil burner in the summer and uses the electric water heater. The only problem is he did not leave directions on how to do that. We've tried shutting the burner off but we dont get any hot water. There are no on/off switches on the electric heater so we really dont have any idea when its working or how to get it going.
The water heater is hooked up to the breaker box and should be in working order. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check the breakers and be sure the one for the heater is on. I would think this would be where he turns the water heater off when using the oil burner for hot water in the winter.

He may have a shut off switch if the breaker is at the on pos., trace or follow the electrical connection from the water heater to the breaker box, if there is one it will be along that run.

Did you ever find out if out if there is a disconnect between the panel box and the electric water heater?

Make sure the tank is full of water before you energize the heater . You'll burn out the elements otherwise .
