    Default Deck boards to ledger

Reference article on "how to build a simple deck", how do you attach the deck boards to the ledger without nailing thru the flashing and waterproof membrane. Deck is same as illustrated, joist parallel to house, end of boards sit on ledger.

attach a link so we can decipher it

however, typically i will run a 12" wide strip of ice and water sheild/ Grace vycor or blueskin on the wall first, then nail the ledger to the wall level, then layout your joists, after that install lag bolts in between the joist locations from there run a 6" strip of vycor on the wall which laps down onto the ledger after that the aluminum flashing

another option is to create a backsplash for the deck, simply do a 2ply ledger, the first ledger being 2x10 if using 2x8 joists, apply the 2x10 ledger to the wall 2" higher than the height of the actual ledger, flash this ledger, then apply your 2x8 ledger with the bottom edges being flush, any water that gets behind the 2x8 still has to get past the 2x10 and it eliminates holes in the deck flashing
