Default soft spot in hardwood floor

we have one board in our (old) refinished hardwood floor that dips when you step on it and obviously has nothing underneath it. the boards (each is, like 2" - 3" wide?)on either side are fine. does anyone know of a way to fix the one board without tearing up that part of the floor?

    thanks! nicole

if you can get at the floor from below, cut some blocks that will fit snug, hit them up hard to the under side of the floor between the joists, then toe nail them to the joists
fire up the saw and make some dust

thanks - we may be able to get there from below. if we have to either pull boards from above or pull boards from below, which is better to try?
