    Default Staining cedar siding

Our cedar siding needs a repaint/stain. What kind of prep work needs to be done to this siding? We're looking for a more natural looking cedar color and have some concern that the current yellow (pic is a bit low on color saturation) may show thru a stain if not properly prepped

The color is better seen here

Hi, power washing to remove the loose material is common. The choice between solid color and semitransparent stain . Solid wears better but you loose some of the grain appearance. Semitransparent simply wipes, scuffs off, to easily for my choice.

First pic is a little hard to make out, but it looks like it really needs a power washer blast. From there, it's really a matter of staining. Reccomend doing a test first with various viscosity to ensure your yellow doesn't show.
