    Default Heating & cooling systems

We are renovating an old hunting/fishing cabin which has no HVAC. We're in Texas so need ample cooling for the summer and heat also. We'd like something very energy efficient & cost effective. Any advice would be appreciated.

How big is your Cabin? Try a ductless split

About 1000 sq ft - is that system for both heating & cooling and can we do it ourselves? My two grown sons & husband have moderate skills & can read instructions! Thanks!

Sorry but I would not advise you to do the install yourself, you'd probably end up calling a Contractor to fix it, (no offense) besides you can't handle refrigerant if you aren't certified. You can get one that heats and cools which is called a Heat Pump and would work great for your location and most have the Energy Star.

    Sten,
Thanks for the advice. And it would cool 3 rooms, not just the main living? Are there ducts?

No Ducts, and you should be able to get one that will cool and heat the entire 1000 sq. feet, they have them with multiple evaps if necessary.
