    Default 3-way Ceiling fan/light control

I have a ceiling fan/light at the top of our stairway. It is controled by a 3-way switch. The line enters at the bottom switch. The fan and light are controled by pull chains. I would like to be able to control the lights from the switches but have the fan remain on when the lights are out. Any suggestions?

You would need to figure out a way to get a "line" (Hot and neutral.) up to the fan location. You would then cap off the line feeding the bottom switch and reconfigure the existing wiring between the two three ways and the existing wiring between the top switch and the fan a bit.....

Is there an attic above the fan/light combo?

If you want to leave the fan on all the time, you would need to run a hot to the fan. If you want to control the fan and light separately from switches you would need to add a second set of 3-way switches and wiring or install X10 modules and switches utilizing the existing wiring.
