    Post 220/110

    i got a shed prewired w ceiling lites and bench w pegboard. my question is there is a 220 outlet id like to temporarily step down to 110. is that possible? if so how w/o rewiring.

    It will depend on which type 220 receptacle it is and how it is wired.

    If it is a 4 prong receptacle you have 2 hots, a neutral and a ground. Wiring a plug with a black wire on either one of the hots and white on the neutral , and ground will give you 120 volts .

    It it is a 3 prong outlet and has 2 hots and ground, then no, because you should not use ground as a current carrying conductor.

    My advise is to call an electrician. Changing outlets, switches, etc. is one thing, but this is more involved.

    The breaker for this circuit would also be a consideration --- depending on the rating may need to be changed to an appropriate size and type ( single pole from a bouble pole )
