Is my 85 year old bathroom worth saving? I love the white porcelain subway tile, hexagon marble floor tiles, double-diverter shower-tub, giant tub, skylight, etc. There are a few missing tiles and a few tiles that have cracked over the years. (At least 4 families, no wonder.) The floor is a bit uneven, one side separating from the wall. I have consulted 4 contractors at this point. 3 said gut and start again, but one tile and plaste spe******t said he can save it. The floor will still have to be retiled/replaced, but the walls, shower, tub, plaster, and skylight can simply be repaired. So my question is this, should I rip everything out and "update" which will include new plumbing and electrical, or should I just make it look better with plaster and tile repair? I can live with a few cracked tiles just for the principle of having the original bathroom, but will a new homeowner if I want to sell someday?
Please help me decide!
