The house was built 1898 or 99. The second floor bathroom was redone by the previous owner. The bathroom had a claw tub that set on a cement slab. He used a jack hammer to break up the cement slab. The tub and cement slab was against a wall that seperates the bathroom from a small bedroom. Since then the second floor landing has not been level. When you get to the second floor landing, there is a noticeable slant toward where the bath room is. The doorway for the little bed room is not true. The door will close. I have been told that a floor joist might be broken.
How hard would this be to fix? If the floor joist is broken, would I need to use, at least 1 floor jack, to level the floor? Would I need to put floor jacks in the basement, to beef up the 1st floor. How extensive could this be? Would I be better to hire a contractor? I am a novice when it comes to home repair.
