Default Iron railing broken away from wall!

I recently bought a home and have been slowly working on it, with spring here i want to get the front looking good. The first thing i need to do is repair my wrought iron railing on the front steps. Apparently the front steps have sank about 6 inches and broken the railing away from the front wall. When i bought the house FHA required the owner secure railing before home was sold. So he screwed a 4x8 inch piece of 1x4 into the wall with concrete screws, then screwed the railing to that piece of wood. looks terrible. I've been looking for some kind of iron spacer or extension piece that i can use between wall and railing to take up space left by stairs sinking. Anyone have any ideas or solutions? Alternatively i could get a smaller piece of wood, paint it black like the railing and countersink the screws so it doesn't look as bad, but i would really rather do it right the first time. Thanks guys!!
