The other day we woke up to find a hole in the decorative plaster around our living room. Before this incident we had no idea what was behind the plaster. The building was built around 1900 and the moldings are original. The piece that broke is the one spot that had obviously been repaired at some point, because it is discolored . Now we have the piece that is missing inside the molding and we can't pull it out without damaging the rest(and possibly damaging a section that is part of an image in relief). Even if I could pull out the missing piece there is nothing directly behind it to attach it to. Any suggestions would be helpful. And for those concerned I will check at the next rain to see if water is damaging the molding around the window. I'm sure it was water damage at some point, but had hoped it was old damage that has been repaired. Thanks.
