    Default transformer for landscape lighting

When installing low voltage landscape lighting around a swimming pool is it necesary to use an expensive $350 transformer ?

The transformer you use will be determined by the type and number of lights being run by it. Typical DIY "Malibu" kits have 6 to 10 lights and run about $50. Replacement "Malibu" timers cost as much as a new kit.

If you have professional lighting, then the kits are much more expensive and the timers will be a bit more costly as well, but the quality is well worth the price. Check with commercial irrigation and landscape suppliers for lighting equipment.
