I agree but I just leave those things pass.
I just might "google" Romex to find an introduction date.

Since you're not using K&T methods to replace the original ask him to explain about 3137.2(c)(15) so when you pull your legally required permit and get it inspected you won't get tagged out and have to redo all your work.
Did anybody here call that number?

    well...guess what....that number is fubar... I call at 3pm, 4pm and 5pm today.

I find article 394 of the NEC to be kind of fascinating and baffling at the same time. The NEC still covers the installation of K&T and it is still allowed for extensions and by special permission.

    2008 National Electrical Code:

    II. Installation
394.10 Uses Permitted. Concealed knob-and-tube wiring
shall be permitted to be installed in the hollow spaces of
walls and ceilings, or in unfinished attics and roof spaces as
provided by 394.23, only as follows:
    (1) For extensions of existing installations
    (2) Elsewhere by special permission

fubar on you a simple typo 216-664-2286 twenty two eighty six not twenty three eighty six.

2008 NEC has no bearing on cleveland ohio.

dates to remember in cleveland 1974 and 1986 on K&T.

cleveland does not allow extensions of existing K&T without special permission.

oh and the insurance can't belivers if you knew anything about the issue and home insurers positions starting in the 90s and knew about the nationwide insurance redlineing case taken on instead of class action civil by the fed goverment suing nationwide on K&T and the consent decree (about 97) you'd have a clue about insurance companies requiring pre-insurance inspection, certifications term renewal inspection options and site visits.

Walt , it isn't the first time that she made up " references " to support her position . There were the " letters" that she claimed to have from some plumbing fixture manufacturers that she could never produce . As I recall , that tirade got her banned .
    Ah , good times .
