    Default Wooden Basement Door

Long time listener, first time caller...

Just bought an old house with a wooden door that opens from the cellar to the exposed stairway. The previous owners have clearly tried insulting the space around the doorframe with foam, wondering if I should see about replacing the door & frame with a steel/wooden door and have a mason square up the area around the frame. As an added benefit, would be great to find a door that had windows to allow some additional light in.

    Thoughts/advice?

Have you given any thought to a fiberglass door? I replaced my old drafty wooden front door with a fiberglass door three years ago and haven't looked back. The entrance is almost like an airlock when you close the door plus I think it is a better insulator than steel. I have a steel door going to my garage and do notice a difference. You can definitely get a door with as many lites as you like. Good luck!
