Lightbulb Space left in cabinet by trash compactor

We're doing a minor kitchen makeover, and are planning to keep the existing cabinets. We plan to remove a trash compactor, and are looking for ideas on what to do with the hole that will be left in the cabinetry. We've thought of adding shelves and wicker baskets, and staining the shelves and any edges that show to match the existing cabinets. Any other ideas?

We removed the trash compactor and installed a trash can that slid in and out . A cabinet shop installed a matching door .

The space could also be adapted to store cookie sheet's and larger sheet items. Taking a page from DJ's book, a cabinet shop can make a door, or better yet a pull out, that will match the rest of the cabinetry. You may have to match the finish yourself, but that's not an entirely big deal if you're up for it.
