Default how to repair crack in ceiling

We have a new home and noticed that there was a crack in a sheet rock joint in our entry way. We didn't worry too much about it until spring. when we went to repair it, it had swollen back together. I am worried now that we are going back into the cooler months, it will separate again. How do I patch it?

I'm guessing the space above this ceiling is an attic space.
Depending on the construction of the home you may have engineered trusses.

There is a phenomenon called truss uplift that may explain your issue. Use the search function and type in "truss uplift" and you will find a few threads discussing this topic.

Our house is having a similar problem. It was built in 1953 and every room has a crack down the middle of the ceiling. I'm interested to see what I can do to fix it.

If you have cracks int the ceiling in every room I would think there is something shifting.
If these cracks are opening and closing with the seasons you really won't be able to effectively patch them.
