    Unhappy Paint over vinyl covered walls

    How do you paint over vinyl covered walls w/ out it pealing in a few months. What products do I need and what is the step by step procedure.

    If it were me, I'd strip the vinyl off the walls and prepare them for the paint. If that's not possible, I've seen wallpaper (vinyl type) painted over and it seems to be OK over time. You might want two coats. I'd even go to a good paint store and ask if there was some preparation that can be painted on the surface, prior to painting.

    As one in ten painters I know will tell me, you can prep/etch the vinyl, prime it with high quality primer and paint it with enamel and it will, maybe, last a year. But why would you? It will not last.

    One of the hallmarks of vinyl has always been, it doesn't stain well and cleans easily which would make it very difficult for anything to stick to it reliably.
