    Default old poplar floors

We have an on house we are refinishing the floors in. It is the old (1861) greeh and yellow poplar tongue and groove flooring.I have sanded the old layers of paint off. Would a clear varnish work on this or is there a better solution?

It would depend om what you want. I prefer a darker floor than just varnished poplar. Poplar handles stain well and can even be stained to give the appearance of cherry. Use a very good hard floor varnish. Latex will dry almost clear while an oil based varnish will add a slight amber tint. My preference is OldMasters oil based. It is an excellent self leveling varnish and dry very hard.
