Default Shade for roof-top AC compressors?

I have two large compressors installed on the roof of my 4-story apartment building. They are on the roof in the hot sun all day, but we are located at the top of a hill and get a lot of wind and breeze.

Would there be any benefit to shading our A/C compressors? Can we construct a baffle that will provide shade w/o blocking too much air flow? Or should we just leave them alone?

    Your comments are appreciated.

shade always helps but restricted air flow is bad and short cycled air is worse. You need plenty of open room on the sides and the top.the book for the unit will specify clearance .
