    Default water dripping sound

We have 2 bathrooms in 2 floors. When we open sink faucet of 2nd floor bathroom, we hear water dripping sound in the 1st floor bathroom. The sound is pretty significant. This has been happening since more than 3 years. However, we do not see any sign of leakage on the ceiling or the walls. This is a mystery to us as to where the water might be going. Can you please help?

    This is a 2001 house.

Not quite sure how you are able to distinguish a dripping sound versus the water going down the drain from upstairs ?

This dripping sound is very typical, like a tapping sound.

I'm suspecting what you are hearing is likely pipes rubbing against framing --- either water supplies or the drain.

I am pretty sure that is not the case. Water is dripping somewhere. I am hoping it is somewhere inside the pipe and not outside as I don't see water anywhere seeping through walls or ceiling. But not sure how water can leak inside a pipe and would make clear dripping sound.
