    Question Old house / New Tile

    My home is built 1925 the bath tile is laid in cement. Does any one know why I cant just rough up the tile and install new tile over it.

    The Tile Councils Handbook says it can be done over structurally sound tile. They recommend the tile be scarified and thoroughly cleaned. A modified thin-set mortar should probably be used. check with the manufacturer.
    You also have to consider how the base will be handled. If their is a cove, how will the new base cover it and connect to the wall.
