    Default Kitchen sub floor

We need to replace about 12 tounge and grove boards to our kitchen floor. This is the original floor boards then tile on top. The problem is that were the workers cut out the floor there are peices of the boards that are still under the wall frame. I need to attach the end of the new T&G board to the joist. Do I try to take out the remander of the old board? Or do I attach a 2 x 4 to the joist and attach the new T&G to that?

Your easiest option is to do as you suggest: to attach a 2X4 to the joist and then install the T&G plank on top of the 2X4. This should take care of any problems.
