    Default ivy on house

I like my ivy! It is just moving up my brick and siding and now I have people telling me horror stories about the damage it can do to the home. Is there a safe or proper way to let it grow up the house without damage? I really think it gives a home character.

It is beautiful, but ivy is invasive and destructive. When you tear it off the side of the house it will leave behind "suction cups" where the tendrils had attached themselves. Those same tendrils deteriorate the mortar between bricks and will force their way into the smallest of crack, where they will take hold and force the crack wider. Overall, not good for the health of the structure. The best thing would be to provide a trellis for the ivy that you'll be able to get behind and keep the tendrils from taking hold of the house.
I suffer from CDO ... Its like OCD, but in alphabetical order, LIKE IT SHOULD BE!!!
