Thread: smelly drain

    Default smelly drain

    Have a double sink with a garbage disposal and a dish washer hooked up to the garbage disposal and i am getting a funky smell from the side of the sink that has the disposal i have cleaned disposal with lemons,ice,salt and have flushed the drain but smell keeps coming back
    any ideas would be a help

    Make sure your dishwasher drain line has a high loop. That is to say, be sure it "loops" at a point well above the disposal level. It is prudent to strap the d/w line to the underside of the counter top. The reason for doing so is to prevent waste(food scraps) in the disposal from going down the d/w line and sitting there until the next time your run the d/w. If you're getting a powerful blast of sewer gas every time you run a load of dishes, that'll be your culprit.
