Default Stripping paint from a mirror

I have an old house built in the 30's. We have a wood door with a large panel in the middle. I recently found out from a neighbor that the large panel is a mirror. Unfortuantely the precious owners who flipped the house painted over the mirror. How can I remove the paint from the mirror? Will a chemical stripper ruin the mirror? Will scraping ding the mirror? Any ideas?

You can stripe or scrap the glass side, unfortunately any thing that will remove the paint from the silvered side would remove the silver. I would try a little on the corner because the silvered side is no normally left exposed and it may actually be glass covered..
