    Default ceiling fan box

Looking to put a ceiling fan up where an existing light was. The box however is not flush with the ceiling, it is recessed maybe half a inch. This will not allow me to attach the mounting bracket to the outlet box, without some kind of space between them and I know I dont want this. What are my options to attach the box with the mounting bracket?

    thanks

You can buy box extenders at most hardware and big box store. The most important thing is make sure the box is securely mounted enough to handle the fan. If not you can remove the box and install a retrofit box.
