    Default Pipes in a closet

I have a condo in what used to be an large old home built in 1931. My condo is in what was originally the unliveable basement. Thus there are some interesting spaces and lots of pipes in the walls and ceiling. I have a door which opens into a space with pipes in it. I'm wondering if it is safe to use that space and how I can use the space inside that door for storage in an attractive way.

You're not giving us much to work with. How about some pictures?

It also looks like an ABS soil pipe on the right. I would suggest a roll out rack and put every thing in garment bags. You'll have to empty the closet any time service is required and I would be very cautious of leaks and condensation.
