We have a house built in 1830, and every Summer, when the attic heats up, we get a strange "dirt" smell coming from up there. I guess it's the old wood which the house is made of which emits this weird aroma. I've been up there and there IS some dust up there. How does dirt get into an attic? I think it's just 175 years of dust and bits of wood which have accumulated and the hot air makes it cook a bit. Anyway, what should I do? I was thinking of putting some cat litter or talcum powder up there to mask the smell. It's only in Summer, but it smells kinda nasty. Do they make those pine tree car air fresheners in life size?
