    Default problems with tomatoes

My tomatoes are splitting open on the vine. Why? And how do I fix it?

I've always heard that tomatoes split when they get too much water. If you water them, you may want to cut back on short waters and water less often, but deeper to the root. Maybe use a soaker hose.

I've found a pretty good article about this. It revealed why mine have done this in the past.

Well you've got the why's, now for the how's. I lay down a soaker hose by my plants. Then I cover the ground with a good thick layer of wheat straw, 5 -6" fluffed up. I use organic fertilizer like chicken, horse or cow manure.

I check the moisture level by poking the ground under the mulch, if its moist, I do not water. With the mulch, I don't have to water very often. BTW, I live in TN too.
