    Default Dethatching lawn

Last fall, we did not get to cut our lawn for the last time, as we had just bought the house, amongst getting married and going on our honeymoon. As this summer has rolled along, I have noticed there is alot of thatch, I assume because of the lack of lawn mowing late last fall. There are some places where grass grows a little, and the thatch is seen, and there are places where the grass is growing really good, however I can see a good bit of thatch beneath it. Should I stay away from dethatching this time of year? I see it is suggested late spring or late fall. Any suggestions whether to or not to, and suggested fertilizing after dethatching is done??

Personally I dethatch my lawn in early spring while the grass is dormant or at least less active. I think if you attempt it now it will kill the grass.
