Re: Remove Old Towel Holders
You may need to carefully run a utility knife around their bases if the walls have been painted without their removal. Beyond that they'll be held in place by visible screws or they'll have hidden fasteners, in which case the part that you see is held in place by a set screw either under the bracket or to the inside where the towel hangs.
Visible fasteners - remove the screws and lightly tap back and forth with a hammer.
Set screws - loosen or remove the set screw and lightly tap the bracket with a hammer. Additionally, once the bracket comes off, there will be another bracket that is anchored to the wall. Remove the screws here and this piece too will come off.
You may be able to install the new units over the old mounting holes, saving you the hassles of repairing these points. While the hardware is off the wall, this is a good time to paint.
