    Question Removing Weeping Mortar

Our house was built in the mid 1960's and has what is known as weeping mortar. We can't stand the look and would like to remove it. The brick is only on the lower half of the ranch style house (upper half is Hardy board siding). I purchased a pneumatic hammer to test to see what it would take to remove. It comes down pretty easy, but want to make sure this is not causing future issues. Anyone have experience doing this? Does it matter how much is taken off? Does the exposed mortar need to be sealed or treated afterwards? Any suggestions to make the new joints smooth? ANY advice?
