    Default reel lawn mower

    does anyone know how to sharpen the blades of a reel lawn mower?

    I have used both a hand file and a rotary tool- dremel with stone attachment worked the best for me. Good Luck

    and dremel makes an attachment that goes on the dremel tool that will keep the angle the same the whole length of the blade.

    I own a 20" Scotts Classic and the Manufacture suggests using the sharpening kit which contains an application brush, grinding compound, and back-lapping crank. The crank allows the reel the spin backwards . It uses the straight blade located on the unit to self sharpen. After you have sharpened the reel you can test its ability by shredding notebook paper in various locations along the straight blade. It should shear perfectly at all points. I usually hit it WD-40 before and after use to keep the reels cutting surface as pristine as possible avoiding having to do these steps no more than once every 2 years.
