Question Wallpaper removed but paint underneath

I am removing 50 year old wallpaper in the bathroom by steaming it off. Under the wallpaper is paint. Some of the paint is sticking to the back of the wallpaer as it is being removed. What is the best way to remove this paint so I will ultimately have smooth walls?

    Thank you for any advice!

I wouldn’t try to remove the paint (except for the loose stuff). I’d add some material to fill in the craters where some of the old paint came off. You could try some lightweight joint compound. You could try a little patch and see how it works. If you’ve never worked with joint compound just remember that it is easier to come back and put a little more on than to sand off where you put too much on.

Too much paint is coming off to use joint compound...

Any suggestions on what to use to remove the paint?

    Thanks!
