Go to Build Clean's site, there you'll find dozens of studies of granite building materials from other countries.

China, the EU, & other countries have instituted radiation standards for granite. This is a Chinese stone company's website. If you can get past the poor english you'll see talk about Class A, class B, etc. Class A stone is for use in residential homes, Class B is for use in places like airports, shopping malls, etc. Class C is for exterior surfaces, & Class D is for use on seaports or other places where humans rarely come to.

The EPA does mention that granite does contain some radioactivity. While that may have been true for some time & for many of the granites on the market, it is not true for all of the granites on the market. The government doesn't keep up with the day to day practices of the stone industry. They may not realize just where some of the granite is coming from.

And that's my mission to educate & inform consumers & the govenment about where exactly the stone is coming from.

you are talkingabout studies that show how much radiation comes from particular granites. still I say no argument some granites have radiation. the problem is not the cause of high radon counts in homes. radon is heavier than air so it settles and disapates with air movement. home with high radon counts are usually air tight homes, and homes on slabs, or basements with low air movement. if you go to akron university they have a simple pie chart that shows percentages of radon from ground and radon from building materials. including granites with the higher counts were found not to have any significiant effect. quit spreading scare tactics and actually do some research and find out the facts. sensationalism always gets attention and that is all you are going for, it seems not facts. if you want to talk scientific fact go to akrons website they have some of the highest experts of this field did these studies and then you tell me why you are so much smarter then they are and why they are wrong.

the problem is you are trying to do so with out having researched out all the facts. it was posted to you the question of long term effects. your response is look it up on the web. the reason for your response is that you don't know. but the research has been done and provided as a link from mia to akron university. and shows that there isn't a realistic risk from exposure to granite counter tops. so how can you inform if you don't know the facts? and you say you won't name the scientists because they haven't published their findings? we live close to fsu and have worked with many of the scientists here over the years and they laughed at what you said because they all depend on funding which depends on interest in what they are doing research on. that only happens if people know who they are and what they are researching. so all your talk just doesn't hold water. the more you talk the easier it becomes to show that you really don't know what you are talking about.
