What to do with detached wing wall footing?
I have a 5' X 5" deck on the front of my house. It is built over a slope and is sitting on concrete wing walls (footings)that I assume were both attached to the house at one time. One of the wing walls has become detached from the house and has fallen forward and to the side so that the two supporting beams on that side are teetering on the edge of the wing wall. I am having it re-built this summer and I have been given conflicting advice. I plan to extend the deck to 5'X 10' feet so my thought was to put in sonotubes a few feet over and to just ignore the fallen wing wall and let it fall where it may. I don't know how deep the wing wall is as it is covered by the earth. Someone else told me that I should excavate the entire area and re attach the wing wall. Any advice?
