Default Lilac bush with no flowers

We have a lilac bush that has no flowers yet the bush has new growth and looks very healthy. Is there something that we should be doing (pruning back, special fertilizer, etc) to promote flowering?

If you cut it back or cut off blooms it will take two years to bloom again. If you want blooms every year never remove more than 1/3 of the blooms.

So is there anything we should be doing to promote flowering? We have not pruned this bush since we planted it a couple of years ago.

Well not being too well versed in the art of green thumbs ...... the things I've learned over the years .... it takes about 3 years or so before a lilac will flower.

They require plenty of afternoon sunlight 4-6 hours worth ... so any other trees around them blocking sunlight will hamper them.

If they are planted in acidic soil .... or where there used to be pine trees .... then adding some lime to the soil will help.

If the lilac is located in a lawn area that recieves fertilizer ..... it's getting a lot of nitrogen instead of the phosphates and they're getting pretty green development but no bud development. Phosphate is good for bud development plus roots.

    Just athought.
