Default Asbestos in Insulation or celling tile?

I am gutting an old sleeping porch on the second level of my 1909 home and was wondering if I have anything to be concerned about with the celling tiles and wall insulation. I have attached pictures of both to this post. THe celling tiles seem to be a pressed fiber board and the insulation on the walls seem to be similar installation as traditional fiberglass but the material is more like cotton??? Anyway, I am hoping I have nothing to worry about but since there is a chance of being asbestos in old homes I wanted to see what you all have to say on the subject. Please let me know.

I think you are right, its worth the money. My wife has asthma and now that I am an adult it makes sense to protect myself and the family! So, I had someone in yesterday to test it, should only cost $300. He actually took a tour of our home to see if there were any other trouble spots and ended up testing some attic insulation in addition to the two items he originally came out for. Fortunately he does not believe there is asbestos in any of it but like he said, he cant be positive until it is formally tested. Stay tuned!

Yes --- if in doubt get it checked.

I'm thinking more of a chance with the ceiling tiles --- depending how old they are --- and probably not with the insulation.

The testing is money well spent. I hope it comes back with no asbestos. There are a few ways to deal with it if it tests positive. your local building department would be a good source of information if it tests positive.

Good news, no asbestos! It was well worth the wait and cost!
