    Default back-up in sink

We live in a condo on the 9th floor. We have a small washing machine. A resident on the 3rd floor has some water and soap suds gurgling up into his kitchen sink when we run our washing machine. Is there a solution for this other than re-routing our washer?

It sounds like the drain needs to be cleaned.

Yep, probably a partial clog in the stack just below the third floor...since that's where the water is backing up. Would probably have a plumber start there. If it were lower, then the back up would be on the second floor, or the first floor, etc...

    Thanks for the responses.
Our condo management however insists that the backup in the third floor sink is due to use of our washing machine (a very small stackable unit on the 9th floor) and says that we must move the machine to a bathroom line rather than a kitchen line. The superintendent said it would be too expensive ($3000) to look for a problem (clog) below the third floor. Is it advisable to try to change our plumbing or should we press for the management to look into this further? Could anyone recommend a good plumber in the Chicago area for a second opinion?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
