How do I tell if I have aluminium wire?
What are the pros & cons of aluminum wire?

    Thanks for your help!

The best place to look is your electrical panel which is the source of all the circuits in your home. Look where the wires terminate into the breakers and lugs where the wire is bare. The copper wire will look like copper (orangest to brown) and the aluminium wire will look like aluminium (shiny metal to gray). Most homes are wired in copper for the branch circuits and aluminium for the main line coming into the house.

One consideration is the age of the house, if it was built after 1972 chances are you have copper wiring.

Aluminum wiring is OK providing the proper connectors and devices are used and any work is done by someone qualified and familiar with aluminum wiring practices.
