    Looks to be more like fir --- heartwood or southern yellow pine.

    Thanks everyone for your help. I'm leaning towards the southern yellow pine - that seems to be the closest.

    I tried checking for records for the house, but there aren't any. I live on James Island right next to Charleston, SC. The land was unincorporated when the house was built, and the County said there are no records because there was no building department then. I was surprised, because it's not THAT old.

    Mixed Oak, grade: 1st picture- common. Next four pictures, a higher grade, like select.

    Looking at the new pictures i say it is definitely red oak.
