Default Exterior porch with stucco - drywall over it?

I am converting a screened-in porch to additional living space.
Currently, the exterior of the house is cement-based stucco.
The house is only 2 years old.

    My question:

Do I need to cut out and remove that exterior stucco, or can I hang drywall on top of the stucco?

Has anyone had experience with this?

Are there any downsides doing it this way, instead of cutting out the existing stucco & metal lathe that currently cover two walls of this new enclosed space?

    Thank you,
    josh

The existing stucco won't be a very true surface to apply the drywall to.
Even with strapping there be all sorts of irregularities resulting in a lot of work to have a true looking finish.

Also it will be a pain to fasten through the stucco.

Personally I would remove the stucco.

Why not skim coat the stucco with a veneer plaster and bring it out to a true plane?
