TVs come with holes pre-drilled in the back for mounting.

TVs have holes pre-drilled in the back for mounting. They come this way from the manufacturer. The screws themselves come with whatever mounting kit you buy, not with the television, and are designed to be just long enough to pass through the mounting plate into the pre-drilled hole in the back of the tv without harming the screen.

Worked great for me with one Frenck Cleat on the top two VESA pitched thread holes with two 3" wide pieces of 1x2 screwed onto the bottom two VESA holes. See Pic. There is well enough ventilation using this method to hang the TV as well.

I'm new to this forum but I just saw this thread. Please do not DIY a TV wall mount. It's simply not worth it. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the suggested method in the first post appears to let the TV hang freely. I consider this to be a safety problem, particularly with small children who might pull on the TV. It seems to me that even tilting it away from the wall at the bottom might make it come crashing down.

In the end, the work simply doesn't make sense when wall mounts are so incredibly cheap. I've used this $25 mount on several screens and it works great and will be FAR more secure because it locks into the bottom rail for a secure connection. As a bonus, this will allow you to tilt the TV too.

Save your DIY for other projects. This isn't a good one to try and it makes no sense.

Oh, and you can get full motion brackets for around the same price.

Lastly, to answer another poster's question about a wall with metal studs, that will be plenty of support for a TV. Technically you can mount a TV to just drywall, but I certainly don't recommend it.

ps-I recognize that this thread mostly has old posts, but I still thought it might be worthwhile responding...
