Please help!! My husband has built a wood entertainment center for out basement. He has painted it black with a latex paint with a spray gun. Since the paint is latex it has a slightly sticky feel to it even though it is dry. He says he needs to now paint it with some kind of an acrylic clear varnish or paint (I am not sure which) to give the unit a shiny smooth appearance that is not sticky to the touch....then we can finally use the thing for our tv and stereo equipment. He has tried a couple products (not sure exactly what) but he is not getting the results he hoped for and is not sure what to try next. Thus, the project has completely stalled out and is not getting completed.

What should he use as a clear topcoat for the latex painted cabinet? How will it have to be applied, by brush or is a paint spray gun ok? Any special technique, product or method he should follow?

Thanks in advance,
