    Default New skirting on house.

Our 1920 home has the original skirting. It is in bad shape and has way too many vents (imagine a wind tunnel in our basement). We want to replace with cement board and then cover with faux stone to take the house back to its craftsman bungalow look. How deep do I need to bury the cement board in the ground to keep animals from burrowing under? How many vents do I need to keep approx 240 square feet of crawlspace adequately ventilated?

We have a partial basement and crawspace. There are openings in the basement to the crawlspace; hence the wind tunnel affect. The skirting I am replacing surrounds only the porch of the house.

Cement board is not intended or advisable for burial or ground contact........especially if you live in a freeze zone.

I assumed since cement board is made to stand up to water it would be allright; especially since we want to use faux stone to cover it. What would you suggest then?

    tluther,

We really need to know your locale to offer viable suggestions.

Type of foundation would also be helpful (full foundation walls or piers?)

(I kinda presume piers and therefore the need for skirting.)

I live in ohio and the foundation of the house is poured cement. The porch is wood and sits on the regular joist system common to porches.
