    Default front porch cover

We need something inexpensive and new to replace the metal cover above our front door. We don't have a lot of experience or money, so we are limited in what we can do. We will be having our roof re-done within a month and are thinking we will need to do the porch cover at the same time. Any ideas? What is the right word for the cover anyway? Thanks to any suggestions!

this looks like an awning to me. You should be able to just frame in a real porch with a pitch away from the house and tying in to the over hang make it look like part of the roof. How you attach it to the rim joists is going to be a big aesthetic choice.

I'll go break out the crayons again and make you a drawing. lol.

Okay here's the side view of what I was talking about.

Then you space the rafters 16" on center like this

You can leave the rafters exposed and see all the hardware or you could finish it off like my porch.

lol, have you ever invaded a 4 year old's territory to draw, tried to answer the unending questions of a 7 year old with a new atlas, and have a great pyrennes/great dane in your lap while trying to make a fast sketch?

Now I remember why my drafting table is in the shed with everything but my ruler.

I tried to do the sketches in mspaint first but that attracts more attention from the baby than using his crayons and paper.
