I find it hard to believe that 3 electricians can't find something wrong . Are they REAL ELECTRICIANS or handyman types ?
What part of the country do you live in ? How big of a house ?
What type of water heater(s) do you have ? How many people in the house ? If the new Heat/Air unit is malfunctioning , an electrician should be able to see that .
Have you contacted the power company to have your meter tested ?

Hi , Yes they are stricly electricians. I have a 50 gallon hot water heater , Me and My wife and a 3 year old live here in southern Ohio. One thing the all say is the heat does pull alot of electric... Here is what I have if I turn off the heat I get 5.3 amps on the left leg coming in to the house and 2.1 on the right leg . I turn the heat back on with just the heat pump running I get 20.1 amps on the left leg and 19.8 on the right leg. If I turn the temp up the heats kick on and the left leg goes to 78.1 amps and the right leg goes to 68.4 amps ?? This is what I just got from using a meter like the others did does this sound high ? Also its a 200 amp service coming in and the hot water heater is 240 v and the house is 1500 sf no basement 1 level 3 bedrooms 2 bath

Holy shmoly! That's 60,000 Watts!!??. If they are all on at the same time?!

    That's 250 Amps alone!

Watches in horror as that monster gobbles up pay checks.

Well , if he's reading 70 amps per leg we can probably rule that out . Thank God .

You said that your high usage problem predates the new Heat/Air install ?

The reason I replaced the old unit was because I was getting a high bill and was told the new unit would fix it ?? Our bill in the summer runs around 240.00 . Our house has blown in insullation in the attic and walls so we have plenty there and I found a air return that was leaking and fixed it before winter hoping that fixed it but it didnt help I have checked all the ducts to make sure they work and are not open ??? Our unit turnes on about 1 to 2 times a hour if that so it dont seem to run all the time ?? I am lost and broke .

Can you pull out your last bill and tell us how many kwh you were billed for on that bill?

Yeah, your amp readings look about right if only one 20kw coil pulls in. 20,000 / 240 = 83 amps.

Do you have any alternatives to using electricity?

Something is not adding up if the unit runs that little .
The KWH usage might tell us something .

Okay so you are using about 264kwh a day at 10.5 cents per kwh.
    Are people home all day?

Do you set back during the day or night? How big is the house?

I gotta go meet some friends for a while but will think about this and post tomorrow.
