    Well............ At least it's fun.

Actually I've been messing around building and testing low pressure alcohol stoves in the evening. This one is made from a single soda can and will boil two cups of water in about three minutes.

    Kent,

    Looks pretty neat.

Can ya teach me or link me?

Looks like am aluminum can cut into two pieces, the upper being set into the lower. Then fill with fuel and light it up. Yes? No?

    ****ie,

I like to walk and hike and hang out with some backpackers on another forum. The latest rage is going ultra light and you can not make a stove much lighter than less than one soda can.

There are tons of homemade alky stove sites. Most of them, like the one in the photo have an internal ring that makes a wall inside from where the can bulges out on the top and bottom. A couple of small ports are in the bottom of the ring that lets the alcohol flow under it.

Put an ounce of fuel in it, light it and the heat starts to vaporize the fuel in the outer chamber and the holes or slots cut around the top of the cans start belching blue flame just like a gas stove. Hence the name low pressure alcohol stove.

They can get pretty fancy but the one in the photo was made with nothing but one soda can a Leatherman, utility knife and ruler. To cut the top and bottom I held a knife down on a stack of books sitting on a counter top with the edge of the blade over the side of the books and spun the can of the counter top and against the can to score it. Then made a slit between the two scores, you can then just peel out the center section and use it for the inner piece.

Here's a link to a number of different designs.

    Kent,

Took 15 minutes tonight before I left the shop.

(I cheated. Used a 1/16" bit in a cordless drill, but did scribe & cut the cans with my utility knife.)

PS- Thanks. That was fun and I learned something new. Might come in handy some day.

    You betcha.

Same shapes. But I don't have any beer cans at the the shop....believe it or not. Alcohol, saws and work don't mix all that well, IME.

    This is a "cobra" stove.
